1. Whats harder to live without, chocolate or alchohol?

i can live without both, but i'd rather live without chocolate

2. Does the colour yellow remind you of anything?

mustard

3. Who most annoyed you last week?

everyone. nah, only the nurse i work with seems to annoy me the most

4. Do you have a cutesy romantic nickname for your partner (or previous partners)?

nope. well every now and then i call him 'sassy'

What is your favourite Stephen King movie?

stephen king doesn't make movies, he writes books, which in turn are made into movies. so....i'd have to say that my favorite adaptation of a stephen king story is of course...the shawshank redemption

"love is not a feeling. it's an ability." heard that from 'dan in real life'. googled a bit for the original of this profound statement and have had no luck. so what do you think? can anyone tell me why this is true?? because it is true. it reminds me of 'teachings on love' which is the book i'm reading and totally suggest it for anyone in the throes of 'love'. the author explains that one cannot know true love until one has become adept of the 'four immeasurable minds.' they are: happiness, joy, compassion, and equanimity. read it. it will open and expand your mind beyond anything you have read or thought about love, and hopefully keep you away from the consumer driven flowers and candy on valentine's day.

when i started working where i'm at now i had noticed that the doc had ordered vitamin d bloodwork on most if not all of her patients. it made sense considering she works mainly with supplements as opposed to conventional medicine. too much vit d can be toxic and so checking it regularly is customary. the thing is most of her patients are vit d deficient and i wondered, why? what i came up with as an answer is simply for the past 20 or so years we've been told to keep out of the sun, which is a main NATURAL source of vit d. we've been slathering on that sunscreen, keeping out those vicious uv's and i believed the sacrifice has been this deficiency, which by the way has been seen mostly in women, the prominent gender of sun bathing activities. i never really brought it up, kinda brushed it off and didn't consider asking the doc what she thought. but lo and behold...last week's newsweek had an article on tanning (tan bed tanning) and had mentioned a bit about vit d deficiency. this has happened before where i've been presented with a question, let my mind shadow the answer only to find it in an article in a news magazine. now i'm not claiming that i'm some sort of genius, but it's interesting for me anyway to see that some of the things that i think about are thought about by others and then put into research. the point? well, i have another question that has been nagging me and i want to put it out there. just in case:

the normal core temp of a human is 98.6, right? would it surprise you to know that out of the 20 or so ppl whose temps i take daily for the past 5 months (you do the math) i've seen only about 6 with that temp. better yet, those ppl are in the 98.0 range not even reaching 0.6. EVERYONE ELSE is in the 96.7-97.5 range. and so i wondered, why? an answer i came up with: global warming.

go on laugh, twirl you finger around and say crazy! if it is global warming then it would make sense that our core temperature would RISE not fall.

hmmm....maybe or

perhaps it is an evolutionary adaptation to the climate that is on it's way.

so i ask you...if you were given an indefinite amount of funding and unlimited time to research global warming, how would you use it? would you try to stop it, or learn how to adapt to it?

a relatively quiet weekend here. stayed in on friday cause of work on saturday. friends went to a comedy show and i was invited but i just can't function in work with only 5 hrs sleep and a slight hangover. how would you feel having your blood drawn from a hungover tired medical assistant? didn't think so.

swim meet on saturday. wow my colleen is a bullet with her backstroke! coach says if she wasn't practically laughing the whole time, she's cut her time. her nickname is smiley o'donnelly cause she grins from ear to ear when swimming.

hung out with steve and his friends george/debbie saturday night. went into university city and hung out at the italian club. stopped at a diner for 'breakfast' and went back to his place. we were up until at least 5 am talking and fooling around, fell asleep. in the afternoon he fixed my car lighter which i use for my ipod adapter. i haven't tried it out yet.

was supposed to go and watch dallas/eagles with maureen. she's a big D fan but she was tired and decided to stay in bed and watch the game. i'm a little relieved, since i was out and up practically all night. we're supposed to hang out tomorrow night for steelers/ravens but we'll see how i feel.

this week looks like normal routine and i'll spend most of it working, mommying, and applying for jobs.

hope everyone's weekend was nice and your week is better:)

i haven't written anything of a personal nature here in a while, but trust me...the little jokes and other fluff, you would rather have:)

not that things are at their absolute worst (thank goodness), but it would mostly be me complaining, whining and just plain sounding angry at every little thing that i could think of and i don't want to do that here where it does no good. venting does me no good...thinking and doing are more my nature...so while no news isn't necessarily "good" news...things are running the course.

back to your regularily scheduled live journal station.

A married Irishman went into the confessional and said to his priest, "I almost had an affair with another woman."

The priest said, "What do you mean, almost?"

The Irishman said, "Well, we got undressed and rubbed together, but then I stopped."

The priest said, "Rubbing together is the same as putting it in. You're not to see that woman again. For your penance, say five Hail Mary's and put $50 in the poor box."

The Irishman left the confessional, said his prayers, and then walked over to the poor box. He paused for a moment and then started to leave. The priest, who was watching, quickly ran over to him saying, "I saw that. You didn't put any money in the poor box!"

The Irishman replied, "Yeah, but I rubbed the $50 on the box, and according to you, that's the same as putting it in!"

1. What's your favorite shade of green?

deep greens like forest. kelly green is too bright for me.

2. Do you wear green on St. Patrick's Day, and if not, do you ever get pinched?

yes i wear it. i wasn't aware of the pinching thing though!

3. Do you do anything else to celebrate the holiday?

we cook corned beef and cabbage and irish tunes are on all day. we make irish potatoes and go to mass (it's a little know fact that the ireland irish do not consume corn beef on patrick's day. it's considered too bland for such a holiday)

4. Have you ever consumed a green beer (or any other alcoholic beverage dyed green)?

no. that's just plain dumb. i drink guinness all year round.

5. Do you have a good luck charm, and if so, what is it?

i have a protection amulet in my purse. a nine mil bullet and herbs sewn in a leather pouch.

there's an article in rolling stone about copy right protection in digital music. right now music from itunes can only be played on an ipod where music downloaded from other stores can be played on basically any player except an ipod. steve jobs is quoted as saying, "a world (in which) any player can play music purchased from any store...is clearly the best alternative for consumers."

this leads me to believe that in the future music purchased from itunes can be played on any player. cool! not everyone uses an ipod for their music. steve jobs is getting a clue.

however, warren bronfman jr. from warner is totally against this, "the notion that music does not deserve the same protection as software (or) films...is completely without logic or merit." i agree with him there. i also believe in artist's rights.

but realistically, this isn't about artist's rights. when you download music, whether from itunes or yahoo music, the artist gets paid. this is about the player you use. and itunes is a competitor of warner, so the consumer's interests are not represented.

let's use films (dvd's) as an example. the way i see it, i want to buy a dvd player, there are lot's out there, at competitive prices as it should be. i choose a sony, only the company which distributes the media allows it to be viewed on every dvd player except a sony. where then as a consumer, do my interests lie?

a big company will use the term 'artist's rights' as a ploy to gain sympathy from the public, but don't be fooled. if artist's do not wish to have their music available for downloading, then it's not available. period. companies are not interested in making money, there are only interested in making more money than their competitor. and it has nothing to do with the interest of the consumer or the rights of the artist.

A woman decides to give herself a facelift for her 50th birthday and feels pretty good about the results.

On her way home, she stops at a newsstand to buy a newspaper.

Before leaving, she says to the clerk, "I hope you
don't mind my asking, but how old do you think I am?"

"About 32," is the reply.
"Nope! I'm exactly 50," the woman says happily.

A little while later she goes into McDonald's and asks
the counter girl the very same question.
The girl replies, "I'd guess about 29."

The woman replies with a big smile, "Nope, I'm 50."

Now she's feeling really good about herself. She stops
in a drug store on her way down the street. She goes up to the
counter to get some mints and asks the clerk this burning question.

The clerk responds, "Oh, I'd say 30."

Again she proudly responds, "I'm 50, but tha nk you!"

While waiting for the bus to go home, she asks an old
man waiting next to her the same question.
He replies, "Lady, I'm 78 and my eyesight is going.
Although, when I was young, there was a surefire way to tell how
old a woman was. It sounds very forward, but it requires you to let me put
my hands under your bra. Then, and only then can I tell you EXACTLY
how old you are."

They wait in silence on the empty street until her curiosity gets
the best of her. She finally blurts out, "What the hell, go ahead."

He slips both of his hands under her blouse and begins to feel
around very slowly and carefully. He bounces and weighs each
breast and he gently pinches each nipple. He pushes her breasts
together and rubs them against each other.
After a couple of minutes of this, she says, "Okay, okay...How old
am I?"

He completes one last squeeze of her breasts, removes his hands,
and says, "Madam, you are 50."
Stunned and amazed, the woman says, "That was incredible, how could
you tell?"

The old man says, "Promise you won't get mad?"

"I promise I won't," she says.
"I was behind you in line at McDonald's."

had a wonderful day yesterday:) erin and i saw phantom at the forrest theatre and then dinner at the irish pub. erin had a huge burger and i had shepherd's pie. we headed over to the gallery and bought her a winter coat. her and i kept saying what a nice time we had together and i told her she was now my theatre buddy.

came home and tim was ready to go out. he and i rarely socialized except for family functions. he is rounding out his social circle of friends and i supposed that's just fine, but resentment kicks in when i think of how years ago he didn't want to go out with me at all even with other parents, and now he is in full swing. it's funny about yesterday because i had asked him in the morning if he was still going out that night and he doesn't remember telling me he was going out and hadn't made any plans to do so, but hey! is it ok if he did? maybe he was trying to beat me to the punch i don't know.

i had also asked him not to make any plans for next saturday night as i would like to get together with my girlfriends and go out for my birthday. he has no problem with it and thought it was a great oppurtunity to have a swim coach's christmas party at the house. great. wonderful. go ahead. whatever.

i know for a fact chuck will not remember my birthday. even with that fact in mind i almost wasn't going to make any plans with my girlfriends and leave saturday night open for us in case he did, and when he didn't i could self-righteously be pissed off at him for not remembering which would translate to not caring. i realized that i would be carrying around resentment of my own creation all week and it's not worth it. we would argue, he would be right and i would have wasted a fucking week in anxiety basing his caring for me on whether or not he remembered my birthday or caring enough about it to spend it with me. it's stupid. but's he's not going to remember i just know it. might as well accept it and enjoy myself anyway.

one more:
at the thanksgiving dinner table tim's senile dad asks tim's alzheimer's mom, "who's that girl sitting next to tim." mouse fart. i said i was "erin and colleen's mom" actually thinking of saying "i'm tim's transvestite gay lover" or "hired escort" while tim passed down my name card to him. never a dull moment.

enjoy your sunday!

oh my lordy, who's almost forty?!!!!!

oh! i forgot! the sun moved into my sign yesterday...

All About Sagittarius

Sagittarians are classically known as the 'favorites of the gods' for good reason: These folks are famous for generosity, humor and optimism, and for the ability to see the best is every situation, no matter how dire the circumstances. A Sagittarius will find a real reason to celebrate each and every day -- due in no small part to Jupiter, the planet most known for benevolence, and the Archer's planetary ruler.

jupiter moved into sag today. matter of fact as of dec 7 or so, the first 5 heavenly bodies will be in sagittarius!

Of course, the other side of that coin is excess and extravagance. So in addition to knowing how to laugh -- and how to make others laugh -- Sagittarians are also experts at overdoing everything. At the same time, if a Sag really does have to be restricted to just one of anything, it had better be the biggest or most impressive of its kind -- literally, a one-of-a-kind object.

Sagittarians are also famous for their love of travel and philosophy; they crave knowledge, and will spare no effort to satisfy that innate curiosity. Sag's own personal philosophy is that life is really nothing more than a series of extended vacations -- hence the reason so many born under the sign of the archer end up living in a different city, state or even country than where they were born.

When it comes to relationships, Sagittarians often find that some of their most successful ones are with four-legged creatures -- their connection to anything with fur, feathers and even leaves is legendary. Romantically speaking, if you're a human, you can only 'have' a Sag of your very own if you're willing to hold on with an open palm. Restrictions will not be tolerated.

this is very true of me. if i feel i'm being bossed around, i will do the opposite of what i'm told to do if only for the reason to show that i can. while this can be a case of cutting off my nose to spite my face, i'm willing to face the consequences of my actions.

However, if you let your Sag sweetie know you care, but allow them to live as they see fit, you'll have gained an intelligent, witty and highly impressive (aw shucks! *blush*) partner whose long-term loyalty will astound you.

One warning, though: Don't ever ask these folks a question if you don't really want to hear the answer. Sagittarians aren't known for their ability to lie. They'd much rather tell the truth, regardless of the consequences -- because that way, at least they can be sure that you know exactly who they are.

true for me. big mouth syndrome.

So while they can get along with just about anyone, Sagittarians are most drawn to the other fire signs, who also live by the motto 'what you see is truly what you get.' No games.
